Real Cycles Deviate from Ideality

The TS Diagram shows how real processes deviate from ideality.
The working fluid experiences a pressure drop in each heat exchanger.
Real turbines and compressors cannot operate isentropically because fluid and mechanical friction cause irreversibilities. This leads to an increase in the entropy of the working fluid as well as lost work.
This red arrow indicates that QC flows from the cold reservoir into heat exchanger #1.
