Here is a quick review of mass and energy balances for open and closed systems.
The big, nasty energy balance equation at the bottom is the one we are most interested in right now.
It’s the equation that is most similar to the entropy balance equation we are going to write.
Also, later in this lesson we are going to use BOTH the energy balance equation and the entropy balance equation to derive some important equations that will allow us to evaluate the shaft work for a process.
Now, we are ready to write the entropy balance equation for an open system.
