What is a Heat Pump Cycle?

This is a cycle diagram for a heat pump cycle.  The system uses a work input to absorb heat from the cold reservoir and then rejects heat to the hot reservoir.

Heat Pump Cycle

The purpose of a heat pump cycle is to transfer heat into a hot reservoir.
Work input is required in order to accomplish this.
Heat must also be absorbed from a low temperature reservoir.
